This 7-week training series is designed for professionals working in construction safety who want to strengthen their expertise and leadership in the field. Participants will explore the full scope of a safety professional’s responsibilities, from compliance and recordkeeping to claim management, communications, and site safety expectations. The program also emphasizes data analysis for risk assessment and decision-making, as well as strategies for developing effective training and addressing training gaps. By the end of the series, students will be equipped with the knowledge, tools, and practical skills needed to build stronger safety cultures, ensure regulatory compliance, and effectively protect workers on construction sites.

Julio Fierro, CHST, CRIS, SHEP is the Lead Instructor for the Safety Academy with more than 20 years of hands-on experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS). He has supported a wide range of high-profile construction projects, from mid-rise buildings to complex, multimillion-dollar developments, including Block 185, Circuit of the Americas (F1 Racetrack), Samsung Taylor Fab 1, hospitals, and college football stadiums. Julio brings deep expertise in developing and implementing safety programs and managing risk across contracts and operations. His experience also includes overseeing incident investigations, managing various types of claims, and leading policy development, updates, and implementation. He is passionate about coaching and mentoring safety professionals and sharing his real-world experience with the next generation of safety professionals, as well as with anyone seeking a better understanding of the challenges within the safety industry and practical strategies to address them.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES | FEB 18TH | 3 - 6 PM |

This course explores the key roles and responsibilities of a safety professional in various industries. Students will gain a solid understanding of workplace safety principles, compliance standards, risk management practices, and leadership skills required to ensure a safe work environment

RECORD KEEPING | FEB 25TH | 3 - 6 PM |

Instructor: Julio Fierro with Flinco

This course focuses on the principles, legal requirements, and best practices of safety-related recordkeeping. Participants will learn how to properly document incidents, inspections, training, and regulatory requirements to maintain compliance and support a strong safety management system.

INJURY MANAGEMENT | MAR 4TH | 3 - 6 PM |

Instructor: Julio Fierro with Flinco, Shane Harris with Flintco, Barron Baldwin with Cerris Builders

This course provides safety professionals with the knowledge and skills required to manage injury claims effectively—from initial incident reporting through to return-to-work processes. Participants will understand the regulatory, procedural, and ethical aspects of claim management and learn how to reduce claims costs through proactive strategies.

COMMUNICATION EXTERNAL & INTERNAL | MAR 11TH | 3 - 6 PM |

Instructor: Julio Fierro with Flinco

Effective communication is vital for safety professionals to engage employees, comply with regulations, and coordinate during emergencies. This course equips participants with the communication tools and techniques needed to manage safety information, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and crisis communication—internally and externally.

SITE EXPECTATIONS | MAR 18TH | 3 - 6 PM |

Instructor: Julio Fierro with Flinco

This course prepares students to meet the expectations of safety professionals on active project sites. Emphasis is placed on regulatory compliance, safety culture, contractor management, hazard recognition, communication protocols, and daily safety practices. Students will learn how to integrate safety expectations into daily operations and build accountability across teams.

DATA ANALYSIS | MAR 25TH | 3 - 6 PM |

Instructor: Julio Fierro with Flinco

This course introduces students to the principles and methods of data analysis in the context of occupational safety and health. It emphasizes practical data analysis techniques used to identify trends, assess risk, and support decision-making in safety programs. Students will work with real and simulated data to perform descriptive and inferential analyses, visualize safety trends, and develop data-driven safety interventions

TRAINING NEEDS, ROADMAP, & GAPS | APR 1ST | 3 - 6 PM |

Instructor: Julio Fierro with Flinco

This course equips safety professionals with the knowledge and skills to develop, deliver, and evaluate effective safety training. It also focuses on identifying training gaps and compliance shortfalls that can lead to unsafe work practices, incidents, or legal penalties. Practical tools and templates are provided to support ongoing training program improvement.
